Iron County VINELink Coverage

Utah Department of Corrections operates the state VINE service as a free, automated notification system. It is available to community members as well as victims. A UDC record can state custody status and whether a release date exists. Documented events include prison release, escape and return, death, transfers among state sites, movement to a county jail, movement to a community correctional center, and advance notice of a parole release date.

Coverage must match the custody type. UDC clearly documents state-prison and state-supervision events, including a UDC inmate placed in Iron County contract beds. Official material reviewed for this project did not independently name Iron County Jail as a direct county feed. Search the live Utah service or call before representing a county alert as active. VINELink is not the federal Bureau of Prisons locator and should not be used for a USMS or federal sentenced case.

Search Iron County VINELink Records

Open Utah VINELink or call 1-877-884-8463. Search one person rather than trying to produce a countywide release list. An offender number is the strongest disambiguator for a UDC case. A name search requires careful comparison when several people share similar names.

1. Select Utah and choose the person-search path.
2. Enter the full name or offender number. Use spelling variants only when the first query fails.
3. Compare identifiers and custody context before opening a result. Do not merge two records based on a name alone.
4. Open the matching record and read the event wording, custody state, and any displayed date exactly as labeled.
5. Save the event date and time, then verify it with the jail, UDC, Board, or court record that caused the alert.

The screen is a search tool, not proof by itself. Match the record and preserve the exact result wording before moving to confirmation.

Iron County VINELink Release Fields

Official Utah material confirms that VINE can report custody and whether a release date exists. It does not publish one fixed text taxonomy for every current web result. Read the live labels rather than substituting phrases such as “free” or “out of custody.”

A transfer into another prison, county contract site, or community correctional center is continued state custody. A parole release means departure from prison confinement under AP&P supervision. It is not a full discharge. For a state case, compare the VINE event with UDC’s Location and Release Date/Type fields and the Utah Board of Pardons and Parole order.

Read the event verb first. An advance parole-date notice describes a future Board-related date. An actual prison release event reports a custody change. A move to a county jail can mean that a UDC prisoner was placed in contract custody, while movement to a community correctional center is another structured state placement. Escape, return, and death are separate events and must never be rewritten as ordinary release.

Notification time and event time may differ. Record both when they are shown. A delayed notice does not change the source event date, and an early advance notice does not prove the event later occurred. Common names also create a false-match risk, so compare the offender number and other available identifiers before contacting anyone or acting on the result.

Note: The PIN confirms receipt of a phone call; it does not certify that each fact in the underlying alert is correct.

Register Iron County Release Alerts

Registration begins from the matched offender record. Utah permits phone and email notices. Phone registration uses a touch-tone number and a personal identification number, or PIN, selected during the process. The PIN is used to acknowledge the call. Registration is anonymous, and more than one phone number may use the same PIN.

1. Select Register for Notifications on the correctly matched record.
2. Choose a phone number, email address, or both, according to the options offered.
3. Create and confirm the phone PIN. Keep it available to acknowledge a call.
4. Review the selected events and contact details before finishing registration.
5. When a notice arrives, record the exact event language and verify it through the responsible agency.

For a triggering phone event, Utah VINE calls hourly for up to 48 hours until the right PIN acknowledges the notice. An unanswered call receives another attempt within two hours. Email registration produces one email notice. A phone or email alert should not be treated as the sole basis for a time-sensitive decision.

Confirm Iron County VINELink Alerts

UDC says not to rely solely on VINE. The Board likewise warns that alerts may be inaccurate or missing and provides 801-261-6464 for verified state status. For an ordinary county booking, ask Iron County Jail whether the person is currently held and request the Sheriff’s booking-and-release record. For a state prisoner, compare UDC Offender Search with the Board order and AP&P status when parole follows.

VINELink does not replace federal tools. When an Iron booking shows USM, FED, or a federal hold, use the federal docket and current USMS verification. If the person was sentenced to BOP, the BOP locator can show a federal release date. A “not in BOP custody” result still does not rule out state, local, or ICE custody.

Data can lag between an agency and the notification service. A future date can also change. Treat the alert as a prompt to check the source, not as a substitute for the source.

For an ordinary Iron County booking, the Sheriff release record should state the local timestamp, disposition type, releasing authority, and public transfer destination. The three-day bookings page contributes only an In Custody clue. For a UDC case, the offender search adds Offender #, Location, facility, Release Date/Type, Case Manager, and Case Manager Email. BOPP decisions explain the Board action behind a parole date. These records answer different parts of the same event.

A court order can establish bond, dismissal, credit for time served, or another judicial direction. It may not show the physical exit minute or an outside hold. Use the court and custodial records together when a VINE alert arrives near a hearing or disposition. If the sources conflict, report the conflict and seek the record from the agency that generated the event.

Iron County Victim Status Help

Automated notices have a local human backup. Iron County Victim Services can help with case-status navigation at 435-867-7543, with an after-hours number of 435-867-7544. The office can supplement VINE for a local case, but it does not replace the jail release record or guarantee direct county feed coverage.

UDC Victim Services also supports the state VINE layer. The published coordinator number is 801-545-5658. The Utah phone service offers English and Spanish operator help. When the issue is a Board decision or state release status, use the Board and UDC records along with the notification.

Utah sends an advance parole-date notice about 30 days before a scheduled date in covered UDC cases. That notice gives time to plan and seek support. It is not proof that release occurred. The Board can rescind a date, a contingency may remain unmet, or later custody events may change the path.

Multiple phone numbers can share the same PIN, which can help more than one support person receive the same covered notice. Keep the PIN private among the intended recipients. Anonymous registration means the offender is not told who enrolled through the routine process. Email produces one message rather than the repeated phone-call cycle, so contact details should be checked for accuracy at registration.

When a state parole date is at issue, call BOPP at 801-261-6464 for verified status. For AP&P routing, the Cedar City Region 5 office serves Iron, Beaver, and Garfield counties at 435-586-5350. A person’s Iron County conviction or prior address does not guarantee that Cedar City is the current supervising office, so confirm the assigned region from the UDC case fields.

When Iron VINELink Has No Match

A failed search has several possible causes. The name may differ, the offender number may be wrong, the record may not be in a participating feed, or the person may be in a system VINELink does not cover. Fully discharged UDC cases may also fall outside UDC’s current-supervision search scope.

Return to the custody source. Use the Sheriff roster and release-record request for an ordinary Iron County detainee. Use UDC and BOPP for a state commitment. Use BOP only for plausible federal sentenced custody, and use ICE only when an actual record establishes that connection. The absence of one alert record never proves that no custody event occurred.

UDC’s search is limited to people currently under its custody or supervision. A fully discharged person may not remain searchable, so a missing UDC and VINE result can require a historical UDC record and Board termination order. Conversely, a person in the current Iron County roster may be an ordinary county detainee outside the documented state layer. The first task is always to identify the authority that owns the record.

If a known county case cannot be found in VINELink, call the VINE service or Iron County Jail to confirm participation rather than retrying unrelated databases. If the booking carries a federal or ICE marker, use the source-specific locator promptly. ICE’s official released-person window is limited, while BOP records have a different historical scope. One missing search result cannot be generalized across those systems.
